The artist Lee Ji-eun, known professionally as ‘IU,’ has no connection to this project. She has not seen it, has not consented to it, and had no involvement in its creation. The character bearing her name in this novel is an invention and should not be understood to reflect her actual words, beliefs, conduct, or private life in any respect. Any resemblance is imaginative rather than factual.
“Snake-boy” is a fictional character. The relationship he describes with the character called IU is imagined by him, occurs only within the fiction, and has no basis in fact. The novel is concerned with one fictional person’s projection onto a public figure; it makes no claim to depict that public figure as she is.
